This Is My Savior

--Isaiah 9:6 - 7--

“In these two verses the prophet of God is describing the glorious Person and work of the Messiah, the Redeemer, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom God would fulfil all his promises of mercy and grace.

Here is THE INCARNATION AND VIRGIN BIRTH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder.’   Isaiah speaks first of the humanity of Christ.  ‘For unto us a child is born.’  As the Son of man, Christ was born, the woman's Seed.  In his humiliation, as a human baby, our Savior was as helpless as any other baby!  He required the sustenance of his mother's breasts, the care of her hands, and the warmth of the blankets she wrapped around him.  He was a real man.  But he is also the eternal God.  Here is the deity of our Savior. ‘Unto us a son is given.’   The Son of God was not born of the virgin, but given through the virgin's womb.  Though he assumed our nature as the child born, he never ceased to be God, the Son given.  And the prophet also proclaimed the exaltation of Christ as the incarnate God-man.  ‘The government shall be upon his shoulder.’  As the reward of his obedience to God as our Representative, Christ has been given the government of creation, providence and grace.

Here is THE AMAZING CHARACTER OF OUR SAVIOR - ‘And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.’  Yes, Jesus Christ is wonderful in all that he is and does.  He is our Counsellor to teach us wisdom.  He is God, the mighty One, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.  He is the Father of his spiritual seed, the church, forever.  And he is the Prince of Peace.  He promised peace, purchased peace, and bestows peace.

Here is THE GLORIOUS EXALTATION OF CHRIST - ‘Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth, even forever!’   His kingdom is an ever increasing, peaceful, prudent, just, and eternal, spiritual kingdom.

Here is THE INFALLIBLE SECURITY OF GOD'S PURPOSE - ‘The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.’  God's zeal for his own name and his own people will accomplish his purpose of grace.”

Pastor Don Fortner

“It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God.  Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me” (John 6:45).

“In the verses preceding John 6:45, our Lord Jesus plainly stated that His elect, those who were given to Him by God the Father, would come to Him, and those who did come would in no wise be cast out (John 6:37).  Then our Lord gave the God-honoring reason why His elect would come to Him.  It was the will of God the Father that Jesus Christ would lose none who were given to Him in the eternal covenant of grace (John 6:39; Eph. 1`:2 - 3; 2 Tim. 1:9; Heb. 13:20).  Our Lord plainly stated that all of His sheep would come to Him, and why none of them would be lost: “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me” (John 6:38).  It was the will of our Heavenly Father that Jesus Christ would establish a perfect righteousness for His people by His perfect obedience to His Father’s will.  As our representative, Jesus Christ the God-man honored the whole law of God for His chosen people, making us acceptable in Him who is every believer’s only righteousness (Rom. 5:19; 10:4; Phil. 2:8 - 11).  It was the will of our Heavenly Father that Jesus Christ would sanctify and perfect His people forever when He offered Himself as a supreme sacrifice for our sins (Heb. 10:9 - 17).

When God our Father, in the Person of God the Holy Spirit, brings us under the preaching of His Gospel, He will enlighten our minds.  God Himself will be our teacher, revealing His Gospel truths to us.  He will give us a spiritual mind that will embrace His perfect plan of redemption for a particular people who were chosen in Christ before time began.  Our God will teach us that He sent His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem us that we might receive the Spirit of adoption (Gal. 4:4 - 6; Rom. 8:15).  God will teach us that Jesus Christ, by Himself, purged our sins; that He obtained eternal redemption for us (Heb. 1:3; 9:12).  We will see, through the eye of God-given faith, the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 4:6).  Moreover, we will be taught of God that Jesus Christ the God-man has risen from the dead, and is now seated in the heavens on His throne of glory as the Sovereign Monarch over everything in this whole universe.  Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, shall come to Jesus Christ by faith, bowing down to Him as our Sovereign Lord and Saviour, fully persuaded that what God has promised He is able also to perform. - and fully convinced by God Himself that absolutely nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom. 4:20 - 25; 8:33 - 39).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

WHEN THE SPIRIT OF GOD is pleased to enlighten our understanding our self-righteousness melts away like the morning frost before the burning rays of the sun.  We become painfully aware of our sins: ’O the exceeding sinfulness of sin.’  ’My sins are ever before me’, we cry with the fathers.  What is to be done about my sins?  It is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.  It is evident that no man is justified by the law.  The tears of Esau would not restore his birthright.  The Judas’ confession that he had betrayed innocent blood only led him to suicide.  The wonderful works professed in Matthew 7 were called ‘works of iniquity’ by Christ.  ‘How can he be clean that is born of a woman?’  Here is the answer: ‘He (the Lord of Glory) appeared (came to earth in flesh) to put away sin (all sin - past, present, and future) by the sacrifice of Himself.’  ‘For Christ also hath suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that HE might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit’ (1 Peter 3:18).”

“And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales.”

--Acts 9:18--

“Every lost person needs the scales removed from his eyes, that he might look to Christ alone. Every believer in Christ wants the scales removed that he might see Christ more clearly. It was not until Paul understood who Jesus was that he followed Him. We will never look to the Lord Jesus Christ until the scales are removed from our eyes and light shines on us from Heaven. We cannot know Him on our own. He must be revealed to us from Heaven. ‘Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven’.”

WORSHIP GOD IN THE SPIRIT”

--Philippians 3:3--

“To worship God in the spirit is to worship without the use of idolatrous images and rituals.  It is a heart worship of the living God.  Yet, it is much more than that.  It is worshipping God in the power of and under the influence of the Holy Spirit.  True worship is born in the heart by the Spirit of God.  The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Word of God, revealing Christ in us; and He causes us to worship God.  It is the Spirit of Christ in the heart that produces all characteristics of true worship: humility, faith, repentance, submission, adoration, and obedience to God.”

Pastor Don Fortner

“Saving faith is not based upon one’s feelings but upon God’s faithfulness.  It is able to embrace and rejoice in the promises of God.  It needs no evidence or proof, only a word from the living God, being ‘fully persuaded that what God has promised, He is able also to perform’ (Romans 4:21), and realizing that the only difference between God’s faithful promise and its perfect fulfillment is just a bit of time ... His appointed time!”

“SALVATION IS OF THE LORD” (Jonah 2:9).

“Salvation - that is a big word!  It encompasses everything that is required to lift a sinner from the dung heap of fallen humanity and make him a king and a priest through Jesus Christ.  All that is invloved in bringing a vile sinner from depravity to holiness, from rebellion to submission, from death to life and from darkness to light is wrapped up in that word.  Everything that is necessary to deliver a sinner from justly deserving the wrath of God to justly deserving, through the merits of Christ, the reward of grace is included in that word.  Salvation in all of its parts - from election by the Father in eternity past, to redemption by the Son two thousand years ago, to conversion by the Spirit in time, to glorification in eternity future - IS OF THE LORD!  It is the glorious work of the Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Not one aspect of salvation, not even one little part, is dependent upon man or determined by man!  ‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast’ (Eph. 2:8 - 9).”

Pastor Jim Byrd

“I longed to understand Paul’s letter to the Romans, but one expression stood in my way - ‘THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD’.  I took it to mean that righteousness whereby God is righteous and deals righteously in punishing the unrighteous!  Night and day I pondered until I grasped the truth that the righteousness of God is that righteousness whereby in Christ, by Christ and sheer mercy, God justifies us by faith.  Thereupon, I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through the door to paradise.  The whole of scripture took on new meaning.  Whereas ‘THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD’ had filled me with fear, it became inexpressibly sweet in love.”
