"His Name Shall Be Called The Mighty God  (Isaiah 9:6).

“Jesus Christ, our Savior, is God, Jehovah, the Most High God, the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, the second Person of the holy Trinity, possessing all the attributes of the Godhead, in every way equal to the Father and the Spirit.  His Godhead is demonstrated by the works of creation, providence and grace attributed to him and the worship he receives from men and angels as God.  All who know him declare, this Man is ‘My LORD and my God!’ The Bible declares that Christ is God manifest in the flesh, over all, blessed forever, the great God, the living God, the true God, and eternal life.  Isaiah tells us that he is God, the Mighty One.  His mighty power as God, his omnipotence, is revealed in the works he performs, works which none but God himself could do.

THE WORKS HE PERFORMED BEFORE HIS INCARNATION DEMONSTRATE THAT CHRIST IS THE MIGHTY GOD.   Who but the Mighty God could create all things out of nothing, uphold all things by the Word of his power, and sovereignly manage all the affairs of providence?  These are works attributed to Christ throughout the Scriptures.  He not only had a hand in them, he performed them!

THE WORKS PERFORMED BY CHRIST WHILE HE WAS UPON THE EARTH WERE THE WORKS OF GOD, THE MIGHTY ONE.  He healed the sick by the word of his power, fed the multitudes with the loaves and fish, cast out devils, calmed the winds and the sea by his voice, and raised the dead by his own word.  The Man who did these things is God, the Mighty One!

CHRIST SHOWED HIMSELF TO BE THE MIGHTY GOD BY HIS GREAT WORK OF REDEMPTION.  He gave himself into the hands of wicked men; yet he controlled their hands.  He never knew sin; but he bore all the sins of all his people.  And when the justice of God fell upon him, he satisfied it fully with his precious blood, and put away all the sins of God's elect forever.   Then he breathed out his life. And, after three days, he raised himself to life again!

HIS WORKS OF GRACE IN HIS ELECT MAKE ALL WHO EXPERIENCE HIS GRACE TO KNOW THAT CHRIST JESUS IS THE MIGHTY GOD.  Who but God could make rebels willing in the day of his power, subdue our sins, clear our consciences of guilt, deliver us from the power of satan, keep us in the hour of temptation, restore us when we fall, comfort our hearts in trouble, keep us in peace in this world, and preserve us in grace and faith?  We who believe know by experience that Christ is God, the mighty One!”

Pastor Don Fortner

Psalm 47:8    -  “God reigneth over the heathen.”

Psalm 93:1    -  “The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty.”

Psalm 96:10  -  “Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth”

Psalm 97:1    -  “The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice”

Psalm 99:1    -  “The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble.”

Throughout His Holy Word, God makes it abundantly clear that He is Sovereign; that He rules and reigns over absolutely everything!  We read these words in Daniel 4:35, words that CANNOT be misunderstood by anyone who reads them: “.. all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he (God) doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?”  The unregenerate, ungodly, Christ hating people of this world, including all works religionists, don’t tremble at this God-honoring truth - THE LORD REIGNETH!  There’s no fear of God before their eyes.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdomTHEREFORE, they have no spiritual wisdom.

The writers of the New Testament were moved by God the Holy Spirit to declare that Jesus Christ is the same Sovereign God we read about in the Old Testament.  “ALL POWER” in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus Christ the God-man (Matthew 28:18).  He, Jesus Christ, upholds “ALL THINGS by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3).  Speaking of the Son of God, who was to be born of the virgin, Isaiah said: “.. the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).  To say that the government is not upon the shoulder of the exalted Christ of God is to say that the Lord Jesus does not reign.  Jesus Christ is Jehovah, The Mighty God!  To say that He is not The Supreme Governor who is in sovereign control of all things is to say that He is not God.  THAT’S THE SPIRIT OF ANTI-CHRIST!

Brethren, Jesus Christ is not only our Blessed Redeemer who was delivered for our offences.  He is also our Sovereign Lord who was raised again for our justification.  “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“WHO MAKETH THEE TO DIFFER?”

“From the Scriptures and experience, I have learned that whatever is in the worst of men and women is in the best of them, and whatever is in the best of them is in the worst of them.  In the very best and worst of Adam’s children there is a mind which is enmity against God, and there is in each of them a heart which is deceitful above all things and desperately (incurably) wicked (Rom. 8:7; Jer. 17:9; Gen. 6:5; 8:21).

As Mr. Newton said, ‘There is indeed a difference amongst men, but it is owing to the restraints of Divine Providence, without which earth would be the very image of hell ... education and interests, fear and shame, human laws, and the secret power of God over the mind, combine to form may characters that are extremely decent and respectable, but none can praise himself, for WHO MAKETH THEE TO DIFFER?

’I am what I am’, said the apostle Paul, ’by the grace of God’.  It is owing to the mercy and grace of God alone that all of us are not already in hell; and whatever degree of human dignity and decency, morality and manners which we may possess and manifest, is due to the mercy and grace of God.  How much more, then, must we ascribe all spiritual knowledge and understanding, gifts and enjoyments to the sovereign, free grace of God in Christ.  ’WHO MAKETH THEE TO DIFFER?’  The children of God cry with one voice, ’TO GOD BE THE GLORY’!”

Pastor Maurice Montgomery

Sound Doctrine

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears” (2 Timothy 4:3).

“Though I feel compelled to often warn against that which I see in myself and others, namely a tendency toward cold, loveless and Christ-less doctrinal orthodoxy, and Paul’s words often come to my mind as a warning (though I . . . understand all mysteries, and all knowledge . . . and have not love, I am nothing), yet I know that the religion of this world poses a problem, which, though no worse in consequence, surely exists on a much greater scale.

How relatively few in this world have any understanding of sound doctrine at all, even intellectually? I cannot help but wonder how many people walk this earth having never even heard the truth as it is in Jesus. And for every person who agrees with sound doctrine, yet, being without Christ, they are puffed up rather than built up by it, there must be a thousand who will not endure sound doctrine at all. The truth of the absolute sovereignty of God, the eternal election of the saints, the effectual atonement of Christ, the irresistible power of God’s grace and the salvation to the uttermost of those who come to God by His Son Jesus Christ is still hated as much today as by the Pharisees of old, but if the future tense of Paul’s warning refers to a time when this hatred is more widespread, then surely that time has come.  May God give my friends and I a voice and heart to faithfully honor Him in the preaching of the truth of the holy scriptures, which are able to make men wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Pastor Chris Cunningham

“Grace and truth are fitly and inseparably joined together. We cannot have grace without truth, nor truth without grace. Those who reject grace, reject truth, and those who reject truth, reject grace. ‘Grace reigns through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord’ (Romans 5:21).  The grace which saves the sinner is not mere pity and sentiment such as we find in the creature. The grace which saves sinners is established on the principles of an honored  law and a satisfied  justice (Romans 3:23 - 26). Grace does not ignore the law nor set aside its requirements. No! It establishes the law (Romans 3:31). Grace establishes the law because it has a Substitute who perfectly fulfilled the law and endured the death penalty for all who believe, in order that God may be both just and justifier.”

Pastor Henry Mahan

REDEMPTION

“Redemption is the ransom of chosen sinners out from under the curse of God’s broken law and offended justice by the sacrificial, substitutionary, sin-atoning death of our Lord Jesus.  Redemption is the satisfaction of justice by the blood of Christ and the deliverance of God’s elect from all possibllity of condemnation (Eph. 1:7; Gal. 3:13; Col. 1:14; 1 Peter 1:18 - 20).  The redemption of our souls by Christ’s shed blood also includes and guarantees the redemption (deliverance) of our souls from the bondage and dominion of sin (Isaiah 53:10 - 11); and the redemption of our bodies from the grave at the resurrection 1 Cor. 1:30; Eph. 1:14; 4:30).  All who were redeemed by the blood of Christ must and shall be saved by God’s grace in him.”

Pastor Donnie Bell

“The Christian needs Christ in his redemption as the object of Faith, for salvation; Christ himself the object of love, for devotion and service; and Christ in his coming glory, the object of Hope, for separation from the world.”

CHRIST IS ALL

“And have put on  the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him; Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, nond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all (Colossians 3:1 -11).

“Truly, ‘CHRIST IS ALL!’  And if Christ is ours, we have all in him.  All who get the Son of Got get everything with the Son!  ‘He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?’ (Romans 8:32).  Our God has given us a word for that in the Bible.  The word is ‘GRACE’!

Pastor Don Fortner
