“Not willing that any should perish”
--2 Peter 3:9--

“If you read the chapter carefully, you will observe that the apostle makes a clear and deliberate distinction between ‘us’ who believe and the ‘scoffers’ who believe not.

‘The Lord is not slack concerning his promise.’  Did he promise that Christ would come to judge the world and to gather his elect unto himself?  Most assuredly he did.  Let the wicked mock and scoff.  We will comfort ourselves in the assurance that, at the appointed time, Christ will appear in his glory.  Though the promise tarry, ‘Wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.’  ‘Yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.’

The Lord ‘is longsuffering to us-ward’.   The promise and the longsuffering of God are to us - those who are loved, chosen, redeemed and called of God, those who believe on Christ for life everlasting.  There is only one reason why God tolerates the enemies of Christ, only one reason why Christ has not yet come to judge his enemies, and it is this: God has a people in this world whom he has determined to save.  He would not destroy the old world until Noah was in the ark.  He would not burn Sodom until Lot was out of the city.  And God Almighty, even in his strict holiness, will not send his Son to destroy this world until the last one of his chosen sheep has been brought safe into the Shepherd’s fold!  Indeed, ‘The longsuffering of our Lord is salvation.'

Once more, it is promised that God is ‘not willing that any should perish’.   To whom is this promise given?  Not to Pharaoh; God killed him.  Not to Korah, Dathan and Abiram; God sent them to hell.  Not to Judas; God sent him to his own place.  To whom then is the promise given?  To us!  Not one of God’s elect will perish in his sin.  Not one of Christ’s sheep will be missing from the fold.  Not one soul redeemed by Christ will be cast into hell.  Why?  Because God is ‘not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance’.   And the will of God cannot be frustrated.”

Pastor Don Fortner

“To him be glory both now and forever.”
--2 Peter 3:18--

“Heaven will be full of the ceaseless praises of Jesus.  Eternity! thine unnumbered years shall speed their everlasting course, but forever and for ever, ‘to him be glory’.  Is he not a ‘Priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek’?  ‘To him be glory.’ Is he not king for ever? --King of kings and Lord of lords, the everlasting Father?  ‘To him be glory for ever.’  Never shall his praises cease.  That which was bought with blood deserves to last while immortality endures.  The glory of the cross must never be eclipsed; the lustre of the grave and of the resurrection must never be dimmed.  O Jesus! thou shalt be praised for ever.  Long as immortal spirits live - long as the Father’s throne endures - for ever, for ever, unto thee shall be glory.  Believer, you are anticipating the time when you shall join the saints above in ascribing all glory to Jesus; but are you glorifying him now?  The apostle’s words are, ‘To him be glory both now and for ever.’   Will you not this day make it your prayer? ‘Lord, help me to glorify thee; I am poor, help me to glorify thee by contentment;  I am sick, help me to give thee honour by patience;  I have talents, help me to extol thee by spending them for thee;  I have time, Lord, help me to redeem it, that I may serve thee; I have a heart to feel, Lord, let that heart feel no love but thine, and glow with no flame but affection for thee; I have a head to think, Lord, help me to think of thee and for thee; thou hast put me in this world for something, Lord, show me what that is, and help me to work out my life-purpose: I cannot do much, but as the widow put in her two mites, which were all her living, so, Lord, I cast my time and eternity too into thy treasury; I am all thine; take me, and enable me to glorify thee now, in all that I say, in all that I do, and with all that I have’.

--C. H. Spurgeon

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

TO WORSHIP GOD IN THE SPIRIT
“To worship God in the spirit is to worship without the use of idolatrous images and rituals. It is a heart worship of the living God. Yet, it is much more than that. It is worshipping God in the power of and under the influence of the Holy Spirit. True worship is born in the heart by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Word of God, revealing Christ in us; and He causes us to worship God. It is the Spirit of Christ in the heart that produces all characteristics of true worship: humility, faith, repentance, submission, adoration, and obedience to God.

Pastor Don Fortner

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).

We Believe

Scriptures Alone: The Bible is the Word of God, 1 Timothy 3:16. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. It contains no error whatsoever. We do not derive our doctrine from men or denominations. The Bible is our rule of faith and practice. "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).

Christ Alone:  Christ is the Gospel.  He is both the subject and the object of The Gospel. It is about Him (Romans 1:1-3), and for His glory (Colossians 1:18). "Christ is ALL" are the words of scripture (Colossians 3:11). He is All in the scriptures, All to God, All in salvation, and All to every believer.  The SURE and ONLY hope of every child of God is wrapped up in the person and work of Christ. Salvation is caused by the work of Christ, His effectual atonement for His people (Mathew 1:21), and experienced by knowing and bowing to the Lordship of Christ (John 17:2 - 3).

Grace Alone:  Every aspect of salvation from the beginning (election) to the end, (glorification) is all of God's grace.  Salvation is not what you do for God, but what He does for you.  No part of salvation can be ascribed to man.  To ascribe any part of salvation to the religious efforts, good works, or free will of man is to deny salvation by grace, "Salvation is of the Lord" (Jonah 2:9)"By grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8 - 9).

Faith Alone:  Christ and His salvation is not received by doing, but by believing.  "This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent."  Anybody who trusts Christ for salvation will be saved. "The just shall live by faith" (Romans 1:17).

“It is as bad to invent a god in the imagination as it is to make one with the hands. The old form of idolatry has its gods made with hands; the new form of idolatry has its gods spun out of the imagination and harbored in the mind.  The unknown God is still the true God.”

“True faith is built upon the strongest evidence possible--the WORD OF GOD!  True faith is a total dependence upon the LORD JESUS CHRIST for all our needs; such as forgiveness, sanctification, peace, and eternal life.  The believer renounces all confidence in his flesh, rejoices only in Christ Jesus, and worships God in spirit.  He feeds upon Christ as the Bread of Life, embraces Christ as his wedding garment, derives all strength and comfort from Christ, and trusts himself to the care of Christ as his shepherd, teacher, priest, and king.  This is the life of faith.”

Pastor Henry Mahan

BELIEVERS DO NOT SIT UNDER A FALSE GOSPEL

“It is a compromise of the gospel and a belittling of the power of the Lord’s hand to save for a man to say that there are believers among those who sit under a false gospel.  Not one place in Scripture do we find the Lord saving a person and leaving them under the power and influence of lies. The fact is Scripture declares that Christ brings his sheep out from among the unclean when he calls them by name; they hear his voice and follow him. On the other hand, it is Satan’s mode of operation to sow tares among the wheat; it is wolves who creep in among the sheep unawares; never the other way around.

Pastor Clay Curtis

“We cannot worship the Lord God of Glory, and embrace the false god of freewillism and legalism.  We cannot bow to Dagon and receive the blessing of the atonement of God’s blessed Sacrifice, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

“To those who truly believe, those who have this precious faith, ‘HE IS PRECIOUS’ (1 Peter 2:7).  This is one way I know that God has given me this faith.  The faith which I have will not permit me to look to, trust in, rest upon, live upon, or have any hope in anyone but Christ, and Christ alone!  Unto me HE IS PRECIOUS!
