‘Having obtained eternal redemption for us’
--Hebrews 9:12--

“The apostle Paul tells us that when the Lord Jesus Christ appeared in heaven with his own blood, offering to God the Father the merits of his sin-atoning sacrifice as the sinner’s Substitute, he obtained eternal redemption’.   His one sacrifice for sin was gloriously effectual.  When our Savior cried, ‘It is finished’, he fully accomplished the redemption of his people. The death of Christ effectually secured and guaranteed the eternal salvation of God’s elect. Those sinners whom he represented, for whom he died, will never be condemned.

1. I know that all for whom Christ died will be saved, because they are completely forgiven of all sin. ‘We have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace’ (Eph. 1:6).  God charged our sins to Christ, Christ nailed them to the cross and his blood washed them away (Col. 1:13-15).

2. Those for whom Christ shed his blood must be saved, because  they are completely  freed from  the  curse of the law (Gal. 3:13; Rom. 8:1).  When Christ was made to be sin for us, he was made a curse for us.  When he died under the curse of the law for us he removed our sins.  Removing our sins, he removed us from the curse.  Where there is no sin there can be no curse.

3. All God’s elect will be saved, because they have been completely justified by the death of Christ.  Justification is received by faith, but it was fully accomplished at Calvary.  Christ was ‘delivered for our offenses, and raised again for our justification’ (Rom. 4:25).  To be justified is to be cleared of all charges, to be just as if I had never sinned.  No charge will be laid against God’s elect, because God has fully justified us in Christ (Rom. 8:33).

4. And all who were crucified with Christ will be with Christ in heaven, because they are already in heaven representatively.  When Christ died as our Substitute, we died in him.  And when he arose and ascended back into heaven as our Representative before God, we arose and ascended into heaven with him (Eph. 2:4-5).  Blessed be God, the finished work of Christ was the full, effectual accomplishment of redemption for all his elect!”

“The election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded”
--Romans 11:7--

The elect of God obtain blessings from Him, blessings that those who were not chosen in Christ will never obtain.  We obtain mercy, grace, a full pardon from God, the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ and eternal life.  WHY? For this very reason:  Christ, our Blessed Redeemer, obtained those blessings for His chosen people by His perfect obedience to God our Father while He was here on this earth.  God bestows His free and sovereign mercy on whom He will for Christ’s sake (Rom. 9:15; Eph. 4:32), and for the glory of His grace (Eph. 1:6 - 7).  Matter-of-fact, God has blessed us WITH ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS according as he hath chosen us in Christ before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:3 - 4).  Every spiritual blessing the elect of God obtain was purposed by God in Christ in the Eternal Covenant of Grace before time began.  And our Sovereign God is going to do everything He has purposed to do (Isa. 46:9 - 13).

All of Adam’s fallen race, including the Jews, come into this world in spiritual blindness. Blinded by our own sinful nature; blinded by our love of darkness and hatred for the true light of God; blinded by the devil, the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that works in the children of disobedience; and, as John Gill stated: “.. blinded by God Himself, so that they could not believe; for after all this, it was but just with God to give them up to judicial blindness and hardness of heart”.

In every generation there has been a remnant, a particular people, who were chosen by God Himself to be recipients of His sovereign grace and sovereign mercy. That is true of this generation, and any future generation as well. The Apostle Paul, writing under Divine Inspiration, said: “... at this present time also there is a remnant ACCORDING to the election of grace” (Rom. 11:5).  If election, as some sinfully and blasphemously teach, is based upon what God foreknew man would do, election WOULD NOT BE OF GRACE.

Brethren, God opens the spiritually blind eyes of His elect under the preaching of His Gospel.  He gives us faith to believe we were chosen in Christ in old eternity, purchased by the precious, perfect, atoning blood of Christ at Mt. Calvary, and brought to Christ by the sovereign, irresistible drawing power of God the Holy Spirit for the glory of Christ, and for the glory of God’s grace.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivered him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19).  “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee” (Isaiah 49:15).

“God’s immutable love, unchangeable covenant, eternal truths, precious promises, and solemn oaths, all stand engaged for the safety and salvation of souls redeemed by Christ, who says, ‘He that believeth on me shall never perish’ (John 3:15).  Shall all the powers of earth and hell make the God of truth a liar?  The Bible is the Christian charter.  Study that and judge of God’s love, not by circumstances or feelings, but by His word and promises.”

“Will worship is the religion of antichrist, setting man in the place of God, demanding that he be worshipped as God by making God’s will subservient to man’s will.”

“OUR GOD DOES WHATEVER HE PLEASES”

But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” – (Psalm 115:3)

“Now, the text clearly states that ‘our God is in the heavens,’ and that he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased!’  Yet, there are multitudes of people who insist that God can’t save anyone without man’s permission!  People walk down the aisle, down to what they call an ‘altar’, and they ‘give God permission’ to come and dwell in their hearts!  And God sits on his throne unmoved! -- And why is that? : Because God DOES NOT BOW to MAN’S WILL or MAN’s WAYS! No one can ‘give God permission’ to do anything!  His counsel shall stand, and he will do all his pleasure! (Isaiah 46:10) And that which God says he will do -- without a shadow of a doubt -- he is able also to perform! (Romans 4:21)”

Michael Smith

“If our hope lies in us, or in what we do, it is a delusion.  If our hope lies in this church it is a lie.  If our hope stands with one foot on the work of Christ and the other foot on our own merits, it will fail us.  Hope in Christ is the only hope which can be acceptable to God.  Our only hope of Heaven will be through Christ alone.  Here our hope begins, and here our hope ends.”

Pastor Milton Howard

“I have no doubt that self-righteousness is the greatest problem we have. It is not our sin that keeps us from Christ. It is our righteousness. This is the most deceptive of all sins!  The deceit of this sin is so subtle, that we can even commit a sin, and comfort ourselves by thinking, ‘At least that is not as bad as self-righteousness’, thus making our sin a ground of righteousness!  The sin of self-righteousness will attack us from every angle!”

Pastor Todd Nibert

Election 0r Atheism — No Middle Ground (Romans 9:16-18)

“If you receive the Bible as the Word of God, you have no choice; you must believe the doctrine of election.  If you believe the Bible, you have to take it all as the Word of God.  You cannot say, ‘I believe what the Bible teaches about heaven; but I just cannot accept the idea of hell.’ You cannot say, ‘I believe in God; but I simply cannot believe in election.’  Election is so much a part of divine truth, that it cannot be expunged from the Book of God without completely destroying the Word of God.  It is taught in Genesis, in Revelation, and everywhere between. To deny the doctrine of election is to deny the Word of God, reject the religion of Jesus Christ, and to engage in the practice of utter atheism; for the denial of election is the denial of the God of election!

Yes, you read that right.  I said the denial of election is a denial of God!  It is a denial of His sovereignty.  It denies that God has the right to do with His own what He will. Those who deny election deny God's government of the world and of His right to govern.”

“I recently heard of someone who claimed to believe the grace of God in salvation, yet they were having trouble with the doctrine of election.  The problem they are really having is with true grace.  You see, grace in the true meaning of the word can only mean one thing - UNEARNED FAVOR!

Most people think God looked down through time to see who would believe on Him and elected them accordingly.  But that means that person earned salvation by believing, and God had to choose that person because of what they did.  But NO!  GRACE IS UNEARNED FAVOR, and since no one has earned, or merited God’s salvation and favor, then it stands to reason that God must choose, or elect, whomever He decides.”

                                                                                 Pastor Paul Mahan

Those who believe in the satanic lie of man’s free will are boasting of their so-called right to choose God, or reject Him.  Whether they want to admit it or not, they’re calling Jesus Christ a liar, for He said, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, ...” (John 15:16).
