 ‘Ye must be born again’
--John 3:7--

   1. Unless a man is born again, he cannot understand anything spiritual. ‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God’ (John 3:3). The natural man is totally void of all spiritual understanding. You may he a logical, rational, reasonable and well-educated man, but with regard to the things of God the unregenerate man is as ignorant and foolish as a madman (Romans 8:5; 1Cor. 2:14). Until men are born again by the Spirit of God, divine sovereignty, human depravity, electing love, substitutionary redemption, effectual grace and persevering faith cannot be appreciated. Men rebel against these things, simply because they have no heart to understand and receive them.

  1. Unless you are born again by almighty grace, you can never enter into the kingdom of God. ‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God’ (John 3:5). You can reform your life without the new birth. You can quit swearing, smoking, drinking, running around and quit any outward vice without being born again. You can be baptized without the new birth. You can join a church, be zealous in religion, teach a Bible class, serve as a deacon or elder, you can even preach with great success without being born again. But unless you are born again, you can never enter into the kingdom of God. Unless you are born again, you will never be a part of the church and family of God, you will never have eternal life, you will never enter into the worship and fellowship of God’s saints and you will never be admitted into the glory and bliss of God’s presence in heaven (Rev. 21:27). Only new creatures will enter the New Jerusalem. Only heaven-born citizens will possess the bliss of heaven.
  2. ‘Ye must be born again’, because by nature you are a fallen, depraved, sinful child of human flesh: ‘That which is born of the flesh is flesh’ (John 3:6). All flesh is defiled, corrupt, sinful and condemned. All flesh must die! Unless you are born of the Spirit, you will die in your sins and your flesh will be justly damned for ever!”

Pastor Don Fortner

“I am with you alway.”
--Matthew 28:20--

“It is well there is One who is ever the same, and who is ever with us. It is well there is one stable rock amidst the billows of the sea of life. O my soul, set not thine affections upon rusting, moth-eaten, decaying treasures, but set thine heart upon him who abides forever faithful to thee. Build not thine house upon the moving quicksands of a deceitful world, but found thy hopes upon this rock, which, amid descending rain and roaring floods, shall stand immovably secure. My soul, I charge thee, lay up thy treasure in the only secure cabinet; store thy jewels where thou canst never lose them. Put thine all in Christ; set all thine affections on his person, all thy hope in his merit, all thy trust in his efficacious blood, all thy joy in his presence, and so thou mayest laugh at loss, and defy destruction. Remember that all the flowers in the world’s garden fade by turns, and the day cometh when nothing will be left but the black, cold earth. Death’s black extinguisher must soon put out thy candle. Oh! how sweet to have sunlight when the candle is gone! The dark flood must soon roll between thee and all thou hast; then wed thine heart to him who will never leave thee; trust thyself with him who will go with thee through the black and surging current of death’s stream, and who will land thee safely on the celestial shore, and make thee sit with him in heavenly places forever. Go, sorrowing son of affliction, tell thy secrets to the Friend who sticketh closer than a brother. Trust all thy concerns with him who never can be taken from thee, who will never leave thee, and who will never let thee leave him, even ‘Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.’   ‘Lo, I am with you alway’, is enough for my soul to live upon, let who will forsake me.”

--C. H. Spurgeon

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

BELIEVING GOD, WE CANNOT BE PRESSURED INTO COMPROMISE

“If we truly believe God, we will serve him with confidence and peace, simply trusting his total sovereignty, power, wisdom, and grace. The fear of man shall not be a threat to us. The favor of man shall not be a motive to us. The circumstances of the hour shall not pressure us. And the desire for results shall not alter our message, or cause us to employ the devised methods of others. If we believe God, we will simply perform our responsibilities faithfully and wait upon the Lord to perform his work according to his own will.”

Pastor Don Fortner

Do You Need God's Gospel?

“Years ago I heard that Martin Luther was once approached by one of the church members and asked, ‘Why do you preach the gospel to us every week?’ Luther replied, ‘Because, every week you come here looking like you need it!’ I might add my own twist by saying that I preach the gospel every week also because I need it. I need it as much as anyone to whom I preach. I am not a fountain of the gospel; I am only a pipe through which God is sometimes pleased to send His gospel. Apart from His provision of gospel truth and Spirit, I am as empty and useless as a piece of road culvert in the middle of a hot summer.

One reason we do not make church attendance a rule here is that we are convinced that God's people NEED the gospel and will come to hear it preached when they can. The danger is not so much in not attending the worship gatherings of the church; it is in discovering that one has no interest in it and must be forced to attend by threats or promises.

Do you need God's gospel? Then be where it is preached at every opportunity.”

Pastor Joe Terrell

“He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.” (Proverbs 17:15).

“How this can be, I do not know, but it is so…. when Christ was made sin on Calvary’s tree, He never ceased to be the sinless One. Even when He was made sin, He Himself remained impeccable. He never sinned! It is equally true that when He who knew no sin was made sin, it became His sin. He owned it, felt all the shame, guilt, and defilement of it, and was forsaken by God on account of it. He experienced everything about sin with the exception of the commission of it. Here is the glory of this - just as my sin literally became His sin, His righteousness literally became my righteousness. With His righteousness, I the sinner am really one who has never sinned.”

Pastor Todd Nibert

“It is as clear as the noonday sun that the law is neither the ground of life to the sinner nor the rule of life to the Christian. The Lord Jesus Christ is both the one and the other; He is our life and our rule of life. The law can only curse and kill, Christ is our life and righteousness. He became our curse by hanging on a tree. He went down into the place of death and judgment and by his death completely discharged all that was or could be against us "Bless the Lord, O my soul!”

Brother Scott Richardson

The Blood

“The Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed blood atonement. He said the blood has been shed. It was God's blood . . . holy blood, precious blood . . . it was divinely sent blood . . . saving blood . . . redeeming blood. The blood atonement means the life laid down, it means the offering up of the Lord of glory! And He said this was the only basis on which a Holy God could deal with sinful men. Not upon your goodness, but upon the basis of His life laid down . . . that's how God deals with sinners.”

Rolfe Barnard, 1904-1969

“DEFINITE AND EFFECTUAL ATONEMENT”

“What a person believes that our Lord Jesus ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISHED at Calvary will determine (in that person’s mind) for whom Christ suffered and died! The Scriptures say, ‘He PUT AWAY SIN by the sacrifice of Himself’; By Himself HE PURGED our sins’; ‘We ARE SANCTIFIED through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL’; ‘The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, CLEANSETH US FROM ALL SIN’; By His stripes WE ARE HEALED’.

Our Lord did not die to make salvation possible for all; but He died the Just for the unjust, that He might BRING US TO GOD; and He shall certainly do just that!”

Pastor Henry Mahan

To say that Jesus Christ is my Saviour, and then believe I have done something to make salvation effectual, is a contradiction in terms.
