Joh 15:18-19

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

AT THE CROSS

Proverbs 8:20-23

I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures. The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

“It is not good for people to spend their lives seeking God and not finding peace in Him.  It is not good that we should be ever learning and never able to rest in the knowledge of Christ.  It is not good to be always doubting, and when asked about our doubts to make the untrue excuse, ‘Oh, I am not doubting God, I am only doubting myself’.  No! It is God who promised life in Christ, and it is God whom we are doubting. He said, ‘I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, I WILL GIVE UNTO HIM THAT IS ATHIRST OF THE FOUNTAIN OF THE WATER OF LIFE FREELY.’ (Rev. 21:6). ‘And let him that is athirst come, and whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely’ (Rev. 22:17).  Of this promise BONAR wrote, ‘Thirsty one, it is with the WATER and not the VESSEL that our souls need to be concerned!  It is not the quality of your vessel, but the quality of the water of life (Christ Jesus) that satisfies, sanctifies, and purifies!  And he whose pride will not allow him to drink from a weak, soiled, and broken vessel (such is the best faith) must die of thirst; and he who puts away the promise of reconciliation because of imperfect faith must die the death.’  He who says, ‘I believe the right doctrine, but I don't believe it in the right way; therefore, I can't have peace’ is looking totally in the wrong direction and will never find peace.”

SOVEREIGNTY BELONGS TO GOD

“The sovereignty of God is absolute.  To acknowledge this truth is at once to acknowledge that God has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass; that nothing else can come to pass; that predestination is a fact; that God does rule in the kingdoms of men; that all human ties, bonds and relationships are divinely appointed and formed; that salvation rests solely, fully and only in God's election; that salvation is by God's grace and His grace alone; and, that no part of man's salvation is of himself either in origin or execution.  Where men get the idea that man's will is the all-determining factor or moving cause of his salvation is hard to see.  Certainly, they do not get it from the Bible.”

 NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD

 Mat 18:1-6

At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“If God send or grant the gospel, which is the means of grace, upon any other ground but his mere good pleasure, then it must be an act of remunerative justice. Now, there is no such justice in God towards the creature, but what is founded upon some preceding covenant, or promise of God to the creature…Free, absolute promises there are innumerable, that light should shine to them that were in darkness, and those be called God’s people which were not his people; but such as depend on any condition on their part to be fulfilled, we find none. God bargains not with the creature about the gospel, knowing how unable he is to be merchant for such pearls. If a man had all that goodness which may be found in man without Jesus Christ, they would not in the least measure procure a discovery of him.

                                                John Owens

Help Thou Mine Unbelief

“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief” Mark 9:24

“Having some small degree of faith, this poor sinner did not boast of his believing, but with tears repented of his unbelief. In a day where religious men and women brag of their great faith, the true child of God repents for their lack of it. The greatest desire of every believer is to believe and trust more in their glorious Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. They have faith enough to know that they need more. They have faith enough to ask for more. They understand enough to know who to ask for faith. Even though they believe, their chief concern is their UNBELIEF. Their desire is for HELP with their unbelief, for they know that Christ is worthy and deserving of love from their whole being. It absolutely breaks the believer’s heart to give Christ any less than ALL! Is it so with you? If it is, then simply pray, ‘Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief’.”

ANNOUNCEMENT

Lord willing immediately following this message we’ll come to the Lord’s Table

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

"Worthy Is The Lamb!"

--Revelation 5:12--

“If there is one thing that I want to impress upon the hearts of those who hear me, it is that Christ alone is worthy of honor, worship, praise, love, trust, and glory.  I read it in God's Book, I heard it in the preaching of the gospel, and I have experienced it in my soul - ‘Worthy is the Lamb!’  The apostle Paul said, ‘This man was counted worthy of more glory.’  The angels are not worthy, but Christ is.  No man is worthy, but Christ is.  The church is not worthy, but Christ is. The preacher is not worthy, but Christ is.  In heaven, all the saints and angels unite in this glorious eternal song - ‘Worthy is the Lamb!’

CHRIST IS WORTHY OF ALL HONOR, BECAUSE HE IS THE DIVINE CREATOR (Rev. 4:11).  In heaven, everyone delights to worship Jesus Christ as God.  And if ever a man gets to glory, he will have to worship Jesus Christ upon the earth as God the eternal Son, the creator of all things.  He created the world in the beginning by infinite power.  He creates men anew by sovereign power.  And he creates all the events of providence according to his own wise decree. In the end, all things will prove to be for his pleasure, his honor, and his glory (Prov. 16:4).

CHRIST IS WORTHY OF ALL WORSHIP BECAUSE HE IS OUR MERCIFUL REDEEMER (Rev. 5:9 - 10).  God counted him worthy to be the substitute, surety, and redeemer of his people, committing the salvation of our souls into his hands as ‘the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.’  His righteousness is worthy to clothe us.  His sufferings are worthy to satisfy divine justice for us. His blood is worthy to make us clean.  His power is worthy to preserve us. His love is worthy to win our hearts.  Christ proved himself worthy.  As the Lion of Judah he prevailed with God.  As the Lamb of God he redeemed us to God, making us a generation of priests and kings.  And now, with our hearts, we say Christ is worthy!  He is worthy of our faith, obedience, love, and worship!

CHRIST IS WORTHY OF ETERNAL PRAISE, BECAUSE HE IS GOD'S EXALTED KING (Rev. 5:11-14).  As God's exalted King every creature of God in heaven, in the earth, and under the earth shall say, ‘Worthy is the Lamb that was slain’!

saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant.”

--2 Samuel 23:5—

“This covenant is divine in its origin. ‘HE hath made with me an everlasting covenant.’  Oh that great word HE!  Stop, my soul. God, the everlasting Father, has positively made a covenant with thee; yes, that God who spake the world into existence by a word; he, stooping from his majesty, takes hold of thy hand and makes a covenant with thee.  Is it not a deed, the stupendous condescension of which might ravish our hearts for ever if we could really understand it?  ‘HE hath made with me a covenant.’  A king has not made a covenant with me--that were somewhat; but the Prince of the kings of the earth, Shaddai, the Lord All sufficient, the Jehovah of ages, the everlasting Elohim, ‘He hath made with me an everlasting covenant.’  But notice, it is particular in its application. ‘Yet hath he made with ME an everlasting covenant.’  Here lies the sweetness of it to each believer. It is nought for me that he made peace for the world; I want to know whether he made peace for me!  It is little that he hath made a covenant, I want to know whether he has made a covenant with me.  Blessed is the assurance that he hath made a covenant with me!  If God the Holy Ghost gives me assurance of this, then his salvation is mine, his heart is mine, he himself is mine--he is my God.

This covenant is everlasting in its duration. An everlasting covenant means a covenant which had no beginning, and which shall never, never end.  How sweet amidst all the uncertainties of life, to know that ‘the foundation of the Lord standeth sure’, and to have God's own promise, ‘My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.’   Like dying David, I will sing of this, even though my house be not so with God as my heart desireth.”

                                                                                         --C. H. Spurgeon
